AAEM Fall Meeting
October 14-17, 2021—DoubleTree by Hilton Mission Valley, San Diego, California
The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) is hosting their 56th Annual Fall Scientific Meeting, titled Immunity, Inflammation, and Autoimmunity in Humans. The AAEM has identified through various assessment tools that there is a strong need to education clinicians on the causes, mechanisms, and consequences of the inflammatory consequences of immune-mediated hypersensitivity, including post-viral and autoimmune illness. Autoimmune diseases represent at least 80 illnesses that share a communal pathogenesis: an immune-mediated attack on the body's own organs. As the human body reacts to its environment - including the diet - adverse reactions occur. The immune system may be provoked to create inflammatory consequences, which can damage any organ, tissue, and cell. For more information, please visit http://aaemconference.com/

Functional Medicine Advanced Practice Modules (APM) Environmental Health 2021
November 19-21, 2021—Live Stream
Addressing the Toxic Effects of the Exposome by Enhancing Biotransformation and Elimination. In the 21st century, two things have become increasingly apparent: first, we are exposed to a more complex array of toxic compounds in our air, water, and food than ever before. Second, it has been recognized that an individual’s ability to detoxify or biotransform and excrete toxic substances is of critical importance to overall health. While the concept that toxins accumulate in the body and are the cause of various health problems has long been a fundamental tenet of traditional healthcare systems around the world, we have learned a great deal in recent years about how toxins affect us, where they originate, and how to improve our ability to detoxify in a toxic world. Understanding toxicity and taking practical steps to improve biotransformation are essential and critical pieces in any integrative approach to your patients’ health and well-being. Functional Medicine Advanced Practice Modules (APM) Cardiometabolic 2022
January 21-23, 2022—Live Stream
Transforming the Assessment, Prevention, and Management of Chronic Metabolic and Cardiovascular Disorders. During the past decade, convincing evidence has accumulated that conquering heart disease is not simply a matter of driving serum cholesterol down. In fact, one-half of the people who have a heart attack have normal cholesterol and now low cholesterol is being associated with a significant risk of early cognitive decline. New information is available. Clinicians are no longer limited to using antiquated measures of cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugars as the primary markers of increased risk for cardiometabolic disorders: advanced lipid assays, markers of oxidative stress, inflammation, hormones, and body composition are all providing new opportunities for safer and more effective early interventions to prevent and reverse cardiometabolic disease. For more information, please visit https://www.ifm.org/learning-center/

The Many Faces of Immune Dysregulation and Chronic Inflammation: Chronic Infections, Atopy, and Autoimmune Disorders. It is estimated that 25 million to 50 million Americans suffer from autoimmune diseases. Functional Medicine teaches that immune imbalance, while often resulting from a genetic disposition, will generally arise in the context of one or more of the following: the habitual consumption of a proinflammatory diet; food allergies and intolerances; microbial infections; hormonal imbalances; nutritional insufficiencies; and xenobiotic exposure.
